Washington Man Who Slowed Down Traffic For Passing Deer Fatally Shot By ‘Scared’ Driver

Spaeth’s spouse called 911 just before 8 pm to report that her husband was shot once by someone driving by. According to the affidavit, his wife reported that the two were standing on their property at the time when they heard a loud pop and then turned to find her husband with a gunshot to his chest. The Washington Post reported that the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office officers arrested Dylan Picard, 22, the next day in connection with the shooting. When a sergeant asked if Picard knew why he was being arrested, Picard allegedly told the officer, “I shot somebody.”

Picard later told investigators he saw Spaeth yell at a passing vehicle and hit the car with his hands. According to the affidavit, Picard was “scared”, and grabbed his gun.

Picard fired a shot from his open window in order to “scare both the male and female,” but he didn’t know that he hit anyone. He was charged with second degree murder.
