McCarthy released a statement via his Twitter/X professional account. He said that House Republicans had uncovered credible and serious allegations about President Biden’s conduct over the past few months. The allegations are based on widely reported accounts about the foreign business dealings by Hunter Biden, President Biden’s son. In July, a bipartisan group representing the US House Committee on Oversight and Accountability questioned a former business associate of Hunter Biden’s, with questions ranging from the president’s involvement in his son’s daily life to his son’s highly publicized struggles with addiction.

“Through our investigations we have found that President Biden did lie to the American people about his own knowledge of his family’s foreign business dealings,” the speaker said.announcedThree US presidents have been impeached by the House: Andrew Johnson in 1868, Bill Clinton in 1998, and Donald Trump twice, in 2019 and 2021. The Senate did not convict any of the three presidents and remove them from office. Johnson was impeached because he violated the Tenure of Office Act which prohibited him to remove his Secretary of War without the Senate’s consent. The Senate acquitted him by one vote. Clinton was impeached on charges of perjury and obstruction in relation to his affair with White House employee Monica Lewinsky. The Senate acquitted him of both charges. Trump was impeached on charges of abuse of power and obstruction by Congress in relation to his attempts to pressurize Ukraine to investigate his rivals. The Senate acquitted him of both charges.
